Description
Presented by Spokane Playwrights Laboratory in collaboration with the Blue Door Theatre

Throughout the six weeks, actors work on original scenes and monologues created specifically for the ensemble. These scripts serve as the foundation for rigorous craft training, including script analysis, tempo and rhythm, bold character development, relationship work, tactical shifts, and the confident handling of heightened or unfamiliar text.

Actors collaborate directly with both the instructor and participating playwrights, gaining rare insight into how a script is constructed from the inside out. By understanding how playwrights build tension, structure moments, and embed intention within language, actors learn to leverage the text itself as their strongest acting partner.

Rather than focusing solely on interpretation of established works, this intensive uses original material to teach actors how to decode, shape, and elevate a script into specific, dynamic, and unforgettable performance.

Dates: April 4 - May 16 (Saturdays - No class on April 25)
Time:
12:00 - 2:00 PM
Cost:
$150

Instructor Bio:
Scott Doughty is a director, playwright, and arts leader with over 20 years of experience as a script developer. He currently serves as the Artistic Director of Spokane Playwrights Laboratory, where he is dedicated to supporting new work and nurturing regional talent.
