MIST Level 1 (Scenework): Learn the fundamentals of longform improv in this 8 week 2-hr class! This course will showcase all of what the wonderful world of longform improv has to offer. Learn how to say yes, take risks, and support your peers. On top of the basics, you will learn how to navigate and execute successful 2-person scenes. We will introduce a core longform structure, known as the montage, and performers will ultimately learn and master a variety of specific tools to use both on and offstage! Whether you are looking to hone your skills for an upcoming performance, or you're wanting to learn the basics of improv to enhance everyday life (which it will!!!), this course is for you.
Graduation show: This course includes a graduation show to give students the opportunity to show off their new skills to friends and family! (Thursday, January 15th at 6:30pm @ Portland Media Center / $5 admission)
About your instructor: Daniel Karambelas first discovered improv while taking classes at ImprovBoston beginning in 2014. In 2016, he moved to Chicago to further his studies, completing the programs at Second City, iO, and the Annoyance training centers. After spending some years onstage in Chicago, Daniel is back home, performing and teaching in New England. Daniel draws from the different approaches and philosophies he has learned throughout his improv career, and incorporates them as both a performer and instructor. He is currently teaching improv with the Maine Improv Studio and can be seen performing about New England.
